40k Black Templars: Grimaldus & Retinue

If you're looking for a highly recognizable model for your Black Templars, Grimaldus & Retinue is a great choice for Warhammer 40.000. The set combines Grimaldus with his standard bearer and two servitors to create a characterful unit that stands out both on the battlefield and in the display cabinet. Collectors and Black Templars fans in particular are drawn to sets like this because they define the faction not only in gameplay but also in atmosphere.

Sometimes, you’re not looking for the biggest box, but the exact model that makes an army unmistakable. Grimaldus & Retinue does exactly that, as the unit is instantly associated with the Black Templars and gives your army collection more personality. It’s a great option for Players who want an army that’s more than just standard troops. For Collectors, it’s a set with strong display appeal and a clear faction identity. That makes this kit refreshingly focused.

The set contains Grimaldus, a relic bearer with the Emperor’s banner, and two Servitors, along with assembly instructions and suitable bases. The selection feels cohesive and gives you a complete unit for Warhammer 40.000 right away. With character sets in particular, it’s important that the accompanying models don’t feel like mere extras, but instead enhance the impact of the main model. This set does that very well, making it an appealing kit for the hobby and your Collection.

If you’re building your Black Templars Collection around iconic characters, this set is especially appealing. The unit brings not only character but also a distinctive look that fits in well alongside other faction models. Many Collectors seek out products like this because they help give an army a cohesive appearance. Grimaldus & Retinue is a compelling addition to a display case or as the centerpiece of a themed project.

In-game, Grimaldus is most valuable when you want to add a defining character unit to your Black Templars. Models like this are often appealing when you want your army not only to perform well, but also to tell a story. If you like having a clear focal point, this set offers more than just an additional unit. It supports not only your army list, but also the way your army looks on the table.

Compared with a standard infantry box, Grimaldus & Retinue has far more character and feels more like a collector’s choice than a straightforward bulk purchase. You don’t get a wide selection of models, but a fixed, highly focused unit. That’s exactly what makes sense if you’re deliberately looking for a figure with iconic impact. If you need as many bodies as possible to build your army, you should go for a larger squad box instead.

The Black Templars thrive on their appearance, and Grimaldus is one of the characters who embodies it particularly well. That’s why this set is a great fit for collectors who want to give their army a strong theme. The combination of a leader, banner and attendants makes the unit feel like part of a genuine crusade rather than an isolated group. This is a major advantage for a project with a strong faction identity.

If you enjoy building and painting Warhammer 40.000 miniatures right away, this set offers a well-rounded project. It’s manageable, but has enough substance to serve as a centerpiece. Grimaldus & Retinue is also a great gift idea for Black Templars fans, as the box immediately feels true to the theme. If you’re looking for a characterful unit rather than sheer numbers, this is very likely the one for you.
